Can the UK and US prevent extremism in Yemen?

The US and Britain have shut their Yemen embassies after threats from an al-Qaeda offshoot linked to an alleged failed US plane bomb plot. How should the threat be tackled?

The two countries have also agreed to intensify efforts to tackle the "evolving threat" from Islamist groups in Yemen. The announcement came hours after President Obama accused a group linked to al-Qaeda in Yemen of orchestrating the failed attack on a plane over the US on Christmas Day.

Mr Brown has called Yemen "both an incubator and potential safe haven for terrorism" and said it presented "a regional and global threat". Officials said the UK and the US have said they will fund a counter-terrorism police unit in Yemen.

Are you in Yemen or Somalia? Do you think groups in Yemen could pose a threat to the West? What can Britain and the US do to curtail the threat?
